Review: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat @ Opera House Manchester

Last night we had a real treat visiting Manchester Opera House to watch Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat featuring Alexandra Burke, Jason Donovan and Jac Yarrow.

The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a tale that follows the journey of a dreamer. Joseph is the son of Jacob and one of twelve brothers. He is given a coat of many colors by his father, which is symbolic of his favor and an object of his brothers' jealousy

Former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke plays the narrator, Jacob and as well as many other parts meaning she is rarely off the stage and  puts on a fantastic performance in all roles .Jason Donovan, who previously played Joseph in other tours features as Pharaoh and a particular highlight was when he breaks into the rock and roll Song of the King turning Egypt turns in to Las Vegas and the Pharaoh in to Elvis! Jac Yarrow plays a brilliant Joseph and his performance of Close Every Door is as good if not better than any previous Joseph.

All the cast have great chemistry on the stage and are thoroughly convincing in their characters including the children.

The set and lighting is impressive and flamboyant and succeed in changing the mood of each scene to captivate the audience. The music and choreography is also outstanding and the orchestra plays a huge role in creating the atmosphere of the story with the famous lyrics by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

All in all this fabulous production is one not to be missed and appeals to all ages. It will be hosted at the Opera House in Manchester until Saturday, April 2. You won't be disappointed!
