Welcome to Wotton House

For 400 years, Wotton House has done things differently. Home to John Evelyn, a botanist and arboriculture expert, who purchased Wotton Estate in 1579. He was passionate about the role of plants in our diets, lived as a vegetarian and was considered a pioneer. This sense of eccentricity lives on at Wotton.

From our 17th century Italian gardens – the first in England – to our pillared library, you’ll discover something unexpected and delightful at every turn. What’s remained throughout the centuries is our sense of warmth, charm and individuality.
