What time are the Thomas train rides?

Will Thomas be there?
Yes, Thomas will pull your train to Birkhill and back.

How long is the Thomas train ride?
The journey from Bo’ness to Birkhill is approximately 20 minutes. The train will stop at Birkhill for visitors to have a short comfort break before travelling back to Bo’ness. The total return journey time including the short break is approximately 50 minutes.

What is included in the ticket price?
As well as a Thomas train ride, your ticket includes all of the activities listed above, which are all FREE OF CHARGE. Exact details of entertainment subject to availability and change.

Under 2s are free but will not be entitled to a seat. Please be aware that every seat in your coach could be sold out so we appreciate your co-operation with this.

Where do the main event activities take place?
The event is based at Bo’ness Station.

Can I stay all day?
Yes, activities are available to visitors from 09:30 until 16:30. Remember that you must be ready to board the Thomas train at Bo’ness Station at your pre-booked time slot (this is printed on your e-ticket).

How early should I arrive?
Your ticket allows you access to all event activities (based at Bo’ness Station) for the whole day from 09:30 to 16:30 but you must be at the platform ready to board your ride behind Thomas 15 minutes before your pre-booked time slot* (printed on your e-ticket).

Please allow at least three hours for your visit and aim to arrive at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway an hour before your train time to allow for parking, ticket checking and getting to the platform (if you’re booked on the 10:00 train, 30-45 minutes is sufficient). If you’ve booked tickets in the afternoon, it’s advisable to arrive earlier and enjoy the activities at Bo’ness before taking your train ride.

What’s the difference between Standard Seats and Private Compartments?
Standard Seats are arranged in 4s, usually with a table in the middle. They are in carriages that you will share with other visitors.

Private Compartments are separate areas of the train that can seat up to 6 people. These are sold as one ticket and are ideal for large groups.

Can I bring my dog?
We regret that dogs (except Assistance dogs) are not allowed at this event.

Do I have to book in advance?
Yes, you should book your tickets online

Will tickets be available on the day?
Booking online is strongly advised as our events tend to sell out in advance.

Can I visit without buying a ticket?
No, you must have a valid ticket to gain access to the railway site.

How will I receive my tickets?
All Day Out With Thomas tickets are issued as e-tickets. Your confirmation email will include a PDF attachment – these are your e-tickets. Please either print at home or have the PDF ready to show on your mobile device at the entrance.

Will refreshments be available to purchase?
Food, drinks and treats will be available for purchase. Guests are also welcome to bring their own pre-packed picnic lunch.

Do you have a gift shop?
Yes at Bo'ness Station.

Are there toilets on the train?
Yes, along with toilet facilities at each station, including baby changing and accessible at Bo’ness.

How do we get to you?
We are about 40 minutes' drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Is there a Car Park?
We have a large free car park but it does fill up quickly. If our car park is full you can find free parking at Seaview Place car park (along the road which runs alongside the foreshore and turn left at roundabout) EH51 0AP, Register Street car park (along the foreshore, behind the Royal Mail Sorting Office) EH51 9HA and Union Street car park (along the foreshore, opposite the Bus Station).

Is there room for Pushchairs, prams and buggies on the train?
Space on our trains is very limited so we offer a free buggy park* at Bo’ness Station where you can leave your pushchair, pram or buggy while you travel to Birkhill and back. Alternatively access to and from the event site is permitted throughout the day (please ensure you carry your Day Out With Thomas event ticket with you at all times) should you prefer to leave your pushchair, pram or buggy in your car. If you intend to get off the train and enjoy the activities and entertainment at Birkhill you will not have your pushchair, pram or buggy until you get back to Bo’ness. If you have any queries please speak to event staff on the day. * PLEASE NOTE: Buggy Park is unsupervised and items are left at owner's risk. SRPS accepts no liability for any loss of items on the day.

Do you have facilities for disabled visitors?
There is good access to the station, the Station Buffet, the entertainment, the trains and plenty of parking at Bo'ness, with dedicated spaces located in front of the station. Bo'ness Station has accessible toilets. All trains are equipped with ramps for easy wheelchair access. Wheelchair users should call Quaytickets on 0343 208 1841 to book their tickets.

*Please note that children under 2 are not allocated a seat and must travel on a parent or guardian’s lap.

Prices listed above exclude booking fees.

All transactions are subject to a non-refundable 0.75p transaction charge and non-refundable 10% booking fee.
