Liverpool Playhouse is located beneath the Radio City tower in Williamson Square and has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building for both its old 19th century auditorium and 20th century front of house extension. Seating 677 across three levels in a traditional proscenium arch setting, it is an theatre. The building began life as the Star Music Hall in 1866, and became a theatre in 1911 on the formation of the Liverpool Repertory Company. National and international theatre companies of the highest quality now bring work to the Playhouse.
