Surbiton High School is delighted to present a new version of the multi-award winning Bob Fosse musical Chicago, re-written specifically for school groups. This dazzling vaudeville-inspired spectacle about fame, fortune, crime and acquittal will be performed as part of a four-show run at the New Wimbledon Theatre. The production will feature a cast of over 100 pupils, from Year 8 to Year 13, and promises to be our most energised, large-scale and explosive musical production yet!
After the success of the magical production of The Wind in the Willows, we anticipate even larger audiences than last year, due to the popularity and love for Chicago, the longest-running American musical in Broadway history!
The performances will transport you to the glamorous jazz venues and dangerous jail cells of 1920s Chicago. They will feature stunning sets and costumes which are being created by the School’s Art and DT Departments, original choreography, a live band (including a large number of student musicians), as well as a range of exciting characters, brought to life by our talented young performers.
Chicago tracks the highs and lows of two infamous women, from their time in the spotlight to their crimes in the shadows. Following the murder of nightclub sensation Velma Kelly’s husband and sister, Chicago's slickest lawyer, Billy Flynn, is set to defend her. However, when Roxie Hart winds up in prison, Billy takes on her case as well, turning her situation into a media circus of headlines. Neither woman will be outdone in their fight against each other and the public for fame and celebrity.
Surbiton High School is delighted to be producing this dazzling musical and we look forward to seeing you there in November for “all that jazz”.
