The Divine Comedy - Casanova / A Short Album About Love

As part of a five-night residency celebrating their 30th anniversary, Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy play their breakthrough 1996 album and its 1997 companion release in their entirety. Their first commercial success, Casanova fits more comfortably within the Britpop era, but with more expansive arrangements and a more imaginative exploration of themes than its Top 40 counterparts. You can hear Hannon’s love of Scott Walker throughout the album, while tracks such as ‘Becoming More Like Alfie’ and ‘Something For The Weekend’ are often cited as examples of some of the best of British song writing. Recorded live at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire, A Short Album About Love sees The Divine Comedy backed by the Brunel Ensemble. It’s a rich, lush record exposing a new vulnerability to the crooning Hannon, featuring the deeply heartfelt ‘Everybody Knows (Except You)’. * This show was rescheduled from 3rd September 2020.
