The Richmond Chamber Orchestra presents a fascinating afternoon of music by young composers, prodigies who revealed their genius between the ages of 12 and 21. Childish scribbles? Think again!
The music is passionate, witty and tender. Written at 16, Mendelssohn’s Octet is a fiery masterpiece; whizz-kids Rossini (12) and Mozart (16) wrote to amuse and challenge friends and family. Britten adapted music he wrote aged 12-17; and here is Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue way beyond the horizon. Prepare to be astonished.
