The past decade saw some fantastic new shows hit the stage! Beat the January Blues by celebrating the best shows that the 2010’s brought to us. …Our top 5 picks are:


5. Bat Out of Hell


Bat Out of Hell The Musical premiered at the Manchester Opera House on February 17, 2017.

It is a rock musical with music, lyrics and book by Jim Steinman, based on the Bat Out of Hell album by Meat Loaf. This critically-acclaimed production uniquely combines the magic and excitement of a musical with the immense energy of rock ‘n’ roll, something that (in our opinion) everyone needs to experience!

4. Everybody’s talking about Jamie


The show was inspired by the 2011 television documentary ‘ Jamie: Drag Queen at 16’ and first premiered in February 8, 2017 at the Crucible Theatre Sheffield.

Jamie New is sixteen and lives on a council estate in Sheffield, Jamie doesn’t quite fit in, Jamie is terrified about the future, He is going to be a sensation! In fact, he already is, you need to see this show to see why!

3. & Juliet


The newest show on our list & Juliet had it’s world premiere in 2019 at the Manchester Opera House.

Romeo & Juliet final scene. Juliet picks up the dagger and… gets a life. & Juliet is the irreverent and fun-loving new West End musical that asks: what if Juliet’s famous ending was really just her beginning? What if she decided to choose her own fate? This concept in our opinion is absolutely fabulous and believe is the show does it justice, of course there is life after Romeo…

This show first premiered in 2017 at Edinburgh Fringe

This next pick is another uplifting story about women empowerment… From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a 75-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. These Queens may have green sleeves, but their lipstick is rebellious red.

1.  Matilda The Musical


This magical family favourite based on Roald Dahl's classic story might have had it’s premier right at the beginning of the Decade in 2010 at The Courtyard Theatre Stratford Upon Avon however that doesn’t stop us awarding it the top spot! This is because this is a show which follows the story extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny! It is an inspirational magical story that wows audiences full of children and adults alike.
