Pet Shop Boys to create music for the stage adaptation of Oscar nominated movie

The iconic pop duo, The Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe), are working with the creative team behind the stage adaptation of My Beautiful Laundrette. They will be composing music for the show which is set to open at Curve in Leicester from 20 September to 5 October.

The original 1985 feature film of  My Beautiful Laundrette was a huge hit and Hanif Kureishi was even nominated for an  Academy Award (Best Original Screenplay). However, he lost it to Woody Allen with his film, Hannah and Her Sisters.

The show, which will be written by Hanif Kureishi and based on his original screenplay, will tell the story of a young British Pakistani named Omar. Set in London during the struggle of the 'Thatcher' years, Omar transforms his uncle's London laundrette into a thriving business while also having to deal with gangs in the area.
