Review: We will Rock you @ Palace Theatre Manchester

Since 2002 over 16 million theatergoers in 19 countries have been thrilled by this awe-inspiring production. With endless hits delivered in a show that boasts the scale and spectacle that marked the bands’ legendary live performances, attendees can expect 24 of Queen’s biggest hits woven into Ben Elton’s hilarious futuristic comedy writing.

Last night we attended the opening night at Palace Theatre In Manchester. The storyline revolves around two heroes - Galileo Figaro (played by Damien Walsh) who is a dreamer haunted by memories of songs from the past and Scaramouche (Elena Skye) a quick-witted outcast trying to find her place in the world. They team up with the rebel Bohemians led by Sir Cliff (Michael McKell) in search of the mythical ‘Rhapsody’ that they hope will free them from the tyrannical rule of the Killer Queen (Jenny O’Leary) and her villainous second in command Khashoggi (Adam Strong) and bring back the music of rock and roll!

The chemistry of the cast and the songs of Queen brings a great atmosphere and audience participation especially during Scaramouche and Galileo and both Damien and Elena deliver incredible vocal performances such as “I Want to Break Free”, “Somebody to Love” and “Who Wants to Live Forever”.

Jenny O’Leary (Killer Queen) and Adam Strong (Khashoggi) play the villains of the show and their vocal performances are just as good with songs such as “A Kind of Magic” and “Don’t Stop Me Now”.

The full cast bring a comedic element to the musical which keeps the audience laughing throughout.  The set and costume design set the scenes and era perfectly with numerous changes during the show.

All in all, the strength of the performances, comedy element, outstanding choreography and  legendary rock songs make We Will Rock You a show not to be missed!
