We’re excited to announce that cult classic BACK TO THE FUTURE world premiere will take place at Manchester Opera House in February 2020. The musical is only around for a 12-week season before it heads to the West End. Tickets go on sale Friday 24th May 2019 at 10.00am.
BACK TO THE FUTURE The Musical is directed by Tony Award-winning director John Rando (Urinetown, On The Town), alongside the multi-Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team of Tim Hatle and with choreography by Chris Bailey. The role of Marty Mcfly will be played by Olly Dobson whose previous West End credits include Bat Out of Hell The Musical and Matilda. Stay tuned as further cast members will be announced soon!
The original film was first released in 1985 and quickly became a much-loved favourite. The tale tells a story of Marty McFly, a rock ‘n’ roll teenager who accidentally transports back to 1955 in a time-travelling machine created by friend Doc Brown. But before Marty can return to 1985, he is faced with the task of making sure his parents fall in love so he can save his own existence.
Original cast members are super excited about the musical. Christopher Lloyd who played Doc Brown in the film said “Ever since Bob Gale told me about this, I’ve been eagerly anticipating it and I’m really looking forward to attending the opening in Manchester to experience our wonderful movie as a musical. I’m only sorry I don’t have a real time machine so that I could see it tomorrow.”
Producer Colin Ingram said, “This show has been six years in the making and we are delighted to be showing it to the people of Manchester first before the rest of the world gets to see it. When this musical hits 88 mph, you’re going to see some serious…entertainment!”
